My Thoughts on MySpace
More and more of those I know are getting on MySpace.
I must say I like the concept, but like Socialism, it isn't reaching its full potential in its current state.
I got onto MySpace because my good friend, Melissa, suggested I get on to keep in touch while I was sailing last year.
It was interesting at first, so many options and information to let others get to know you. I didn't really get into the whole 'network' thing, though. But it said I was in my own extended network. And there was like a million in my network. Kinda silly if you ask me.
One day I found that there was a whole section on schools. I looked up my old HS and found there were quite a few old classmates on there. Great way to catch up with old friends.
My buddy in Hawaii, Dirty Dave, has a site up for his band, Lonely Avenue, to get some exposure. And they certainly can use it. Thier music is amazingly good.
But today I was just clicking through profiles I saw randomly and my eyes began to hurt. Some users have soooo much crap on thier profile pages it just makes it rather confusing. Maybe Im too simple of a guy. I find a well written bit more appealing than a whole bunch of flashing pictures and sound/video clips. I mean some is fine- I even have one of Lonely Avenue's tracks on my profile- but too much just starts to look like a waste of resources.
I think, when it comes to webpages, I'm rather OCD. I like a neat, clean site. I intend to keep the Tropical Mile litter free... but I certainly wouldn't mind actually meeting people through MySpace. I mean they don't refer to it as FuckSpace for nothing. If only I can desensitize myself to the flashiness.
